Self-Check Quiz
Fifteen questions on the core skills of Lessons 2–8: the work of a force, weight, springs and friction, the principle of work and energy, power and efficiency, potential energy, conservation of energy and curved paths. Submit to see your score and a worked solution for every question.
Before you start
- 15questions
- ≈ 35 minestimated time
- L2–L8lessons covered
- Instantscore and solutions
How it works
- Work on your own with a calculator and scrap paper. Try it without notes first: that shows you what you really know.
- Nothing is marked until you press Submit quiz. Until then you can move between questions and change any answer.
- Each question is either right or wrong. When a question has several boxes, every box must be right.
- After you submit, you see your score, a review of every question with a worked solution, and a results sheet you can print or save as a PDF.
- Use \(g = 9.81\ \text{m/s}^2\). Give each answer in the unit shown next to its box, and keep the sign of every work: a force that opposes the motion does negative work.
Typing answers
| To enter | Type |
|---|---|
| \(\sqrt{2(9.81)(3)}\) | sqrt(2*9.81*3) |
| \(\tfrac12(20)(4.08)^2\) | 0.5*20*4.08^2 |
| \(150(6)\cos 30^\circ\) | 150*6*cos(30°) |
| \(-588.6\) | -588.6 |
| \(2\times 10^3\) | 2e3 or 2000 |
Each box shows how it read your entry (for example = 7.672), so you can check it before you submit. Type only the number or expression; the unit is shown next to the box.
The quiz
After the quiz
Use your results to decide what to do next. After you submit, the Results by lesson table under your score links straight to the lessons behind any questions you missed.
- Missed a question? Read its worked solution, then revisit the lesson it points to.
- Want more practice? The Practice Lab generates unlimited problems on every skill in this quiz (work, springs and friction, speeds and distances, power, potential energy, conservation of energy and curved paths), each with hints and a full solution.
- Prefer pen and paper? Try the Printable Worksheet.
- Keep the Formula Sheet next to you while you review.
- Then press Retake quiz and aim for 15 out of 15.
