Self-Check Quiz

Fifteen questions on the core skills of Lessons 1–7: the design process and the rubber engine, great-circle distances and requirements, the payload–range diagram, engine-out climb and approach speed, mission timelines, reserves and winds, and the cost of a range requirement. Submit to see your score and a worked solution for every question.

Before you start

How it works

  • Work on your own with a calculator and scrap paper. Try it without notes first: that shows you what you really know.
  • Nothing is marked until you press Submit quiz. Until then you can move between questions and change any answer.
  • Each question is either right or wrong. When a question has several boxes, every box must be right.
  • After you submit, you see your score, a review of every question with a worked solution, and a results sheet you can print or save as a PDF.
  • Use \(g = 9.81\ \text{m/s}^2\), \(\rho = 1.225\ \text{kg/m}^3\) at sea level, \(R_E = 6371\ \text{km}\) and \(1\ \text{kt} = 0.5144\ \text{m/s}\), unless a question says otherwise.

\(180\,000(1 - e^{-0.5(0.45)/19})\)180000*(1-exp(-0.5*0.45/19))

Each box shows how it read your entry (for example = 7.2), so you can check it before you submit. Type only the number; the unit is shown next to the box.
